For advanced users, Core FTP Pro is available with advanced features you need. Our goal is simply to bring you the best FTP software on the internet. Look at the list of features you get with Core FTP Pro – solve your current/future ftp client needs for one low price…

With Core FTP Pro, now you can:

Encrypt and decrypt files to servers using the latest encryption methods.
Schedule ftp transfers (unattended) without additional services.
IBM Information Exchange support with command line updates.
Email notification, external program execution, & Ping/TraceRoute included.
View thumbnails images of remote directories (in 4 different sizes).
Zip support – Compress, password protect, and backup to FTP securely.

1: Fill in the user/password fields with a user/password combination of your choice.

2: Select the port, and directory to give others access to.

3: Click start!  Now other users can access your files via Core FTP client (SSH/SFTP option checked).

Many computers will have a firewall preventing others from accessing your computer. To get around this issue, open up Port 22 for incoming connections. This will be the only port that is open due to the ssh/sftp protocol one connection connectivity.

This SFTP server version has no permissions setup to prevent others from deleting your files. If using NTFS, you can protect your files by changing their permissions or changing files to be ‘read only’ all other hard drive formats from windows explorer.

To start the sftp server automatically, add ‘-start’ to the command line parameter or shortcut (ver 1.03 >=)

There will be more updates in the very near future, please bear with us!

Enjoy!

As far as FTP clients go, Core FTP Lite is one of the most comprehensive out there. It allows you to do pretty much anything that you can do with FTP transfers. It features everything from SFTP (SSH), SSL, TLS, IDN, browser integration, site to site transfers to FTP transfer resume, drag and drop support and command line transfers.Where Cute FTP really distinguishes itself is through it’s security features. Not many FTP clients support so many different security protocols meaning you can upload and download to FTP servers with peace of mind. This is essential if you’re administering a website that holds. The list of features doesn’t stop there though and is truly mind boggling. It also supports Auto retry of failed transfers, bandwidth control throttle, remote file searching and .htaccess/.htpasswd editing amongst many many more.

PROS

  • Packed with features

  • Supports several security protocols

CONS

  • Not suitable for beginners to FTP

  • Sometimes hangs on connections

Older versions

  • Core FTP LE2.1.1591

  • Core FTP LE2.1.1573

  • 1:  Enter your domain name, this can be anything.

2:  Enter your domain name as used on the internet or your internal/external IP address

(in v1 enter “localhost” with no quotes for unknown address, v2 may require the machine name).

3:  If you do not wish to include SSL/TLS or HTTPS support, check the “Disable FTP” option and skip to step #4.

Add an existing certificate to a certificate store by clicking the ‘certificate’ button. Click on the store in the left pane (default “my personal”), right click on the right pane, select “Manage Certificates” and import your existing key.

If you do not have a certificate installed in your certificate stores or do not have a certificate, press the ‘self signed certificate’ button to generate your own.  The self signed certificate will require you to enter certificate information.

Various SSL options (or to select FTPS) can be found under the small button next to the “Disable FTP” option:

4:  Enter a port (default ports: FTP-21, SSH/SFTP-22, HTTPS-443, FTPS 990).  SSH/SFTP and HTTPS have their own port settings (small button next to each option).

Again, if you aren’t using FTP/SSL, check the “Disable FTP” option.

5:  Chose a base directory where all directories and user directories will exist.

If you are choosing a networked drive, you may need to modify the account in the Core FTP Server’s service properties,
as the system account may not have access to the network drive.

    6:  Hit OK.

Next, create a user for the domain:

Select the domain we just created (mydomain.com) and then click on the ‘New’ button below to create a new user for this domain.

To get up and running, the user, password, and home directory are the only fields that are required.  Enter those fields and hit ok.

You should now see the user you created in the list of users for your domain.

    Hit OK to proceed.

Now you’re all set.   Click ‘start’ to get the server going and connect with your FTP client.   You can edit your domain and user settings at a later time.

Users running x64 or Server versions of Windows may need to run in administrator mode in order for SSL/TLS and or HTTPS to work correctly. To do this, right click on the Core FTP Server icon, select “Run as administrator”. You will need to re-enter your domain information again.

In addition to running in administrator mode, the user will likely need to set the account they are using for the service, by going into the System menu (upper left icon) in Core FTP Server -> Global Settings -> Service. Enter your administrator account user and password. If the service has already been created, you may have to delete it before creating it again.    These settings can alternatively be found under Administrative tools -> Services -> Core FTP Server service “logon” properties.

The “Global logging” option should *not* be used in global settings (this feature will be removed in a future release), use the logging options found in each domain under the “Logging” button.

Starting in version 1.2 of Core FTP Server, there are a few new settings in the domain configuration.

    1) All server types (FTP, SSL, SFTP, HTTPS) are included in one domain now, instead of being separate. It is no longer required to create a domain for each protocol type.

    2) The FTP protocol is on by default. Select the “Disable FTP” option in the domain setup if you do not want to run FTP or SSL in a domain (ie: only wish to run SSH/SFTP or HTTPS).

    3) The SSH port setting is now set under a small button next to the “SSH/SFTP” option in the domain setup.

    4) The HTTPS port is also set under a small button next to the setting in the domain setup.
